Tom started his career in global education and program management 43 years ago, when he and his family moved to Hamburg, Germany. Tom was only six weeks old, but research has proven that this is the optimal age to learn new cultures, languages, and the subtle art of negotiation. Since then, Tom has spent more than 25 years outside the United States; he has lived or worked in Korea, Switzerland, Hungary, Japan, Taiwan, and now Indonesia. Tom spent years teaching in public and private schools before earning his Master’s in TESOL at Arizona State University (ASU), where he went on to develop curricula, train teachers, and design and manage online learning programs. Prior to starting his position as the Assistant Chief Representative for USAID and ASU’s Higher Education Partnership Initiative (HEPI) in Jakarta, Tom spent two years on the Fulbright program in Taipei, managing an English Medium Instruction (EMI) program at National Taipei University of Technology.
